Pakistan Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has appointed a joint venture of M/s National Engineering Services Pakistan (Pvt) limited and M/s Associated Consulting Engineers ACE (Pvt) limited in association with M/s A.A. Associates and M/s BARQAAB Consulting Services (Pvt) limited for planning and design for up gradation and relocation of Karakorum Highway (KKH) for basha dam project The project will involve review and up gradation of all existing studies, reports and data and carrying out additional investigations and surveys for accomplishing the task.

As the railway track does not exist beyond Havelian, the only mean of transportation of construction material and equipment to dam site is KKH. As such the WAPDA has taken up improvement/strengthening of Havalian-Sazin section up to dam site. In addition to that about 100 Km of existing road which is likely to get submerged Consequently due to formation of lake and thus requires to be relocated at a safe level. Present length of road shall increase nearly about 40 Km.

Review and up-gradation of all existing studies, reports, data and carrying out additional Investigation and survey for completion of Task. Preparation of feasibility study and detailed engineering design for up-gradation of KKH from Havelian to Mansehra. Review of feasibility study and detailed engineering design for improvement of KKH from Mansehra to Chilas prepared by NHA’s Consultants and upgrade the same, if required for reach Mansehra to Dam site. Preparation of feasibility study report and detailed engineering design for relocation of KKH from Sazin to Raikot. Preparation of PC-1. Check of effect of other hydro power projects along KKH such as Dasu, Pattan, Thakot as per studies already carried out.
